Our international students had a fabulous experience on Monday, October 6th, venturing out to Kāpiti Island Nature Reserve. This trip was a wonderful opportunity to discover the incredible natural wonders of the island’s unique flora and fauna.

The group tackled the Wilkinson Track, a rewarding three-hour return walk. Along the way, the air was filled with a beautiful chorus of native birdsong, and students were treated to sightings of several iconic New Zealand species, including the cheeky Weka, melodious Tūī, rare Hihi (Stitchbird), playful Kākā (Native Parrot), and sweet-singing Korimako (Bellbird).

Our guide, Kerstin from Kāpiti Island Nature Tours, was an absolute wealth of knowledge, sharing fascinating insights into the island’s conservation and ecology. The lush bush and the light, misty rain created an atmosphere that felt almost prehistoric, adding a magical touch to the students’ immersion in this special environment.

It was an unforgettable day celebrating and exploring New Zealand’s commitment to nature conservation!
