On Saturday 18th October, Alex Bull (Year 12) was invited by the NZ Board of Geography Teachers to the final stage of the NZ iGeo Olympiad team selection, for the 2026 International Geography Olympiad to be held in Istanbul, Turkiye. The three stage selection process began in Term 2, with 172 entrants from 39 secondary schools taking part, a record for the competition. From there, 50 students were invited to Stage 2, culminating in Alex and 10 other students from across the country being invited for final testing.
Alex narrowly missed out on selection for the team of four, coming in 6th! The NZ iGeo teacher mentor team reported that they were “very impressed with the caliber of the students, with all students acquitting themselves impeccably, showing strong academic knowledge and collaborative skills“. Well done Alex, we are proud of you!
