On December 1st & 2nd, the future student leaders of Onslow College began their journey toward 2026. Our Kākā Tangi Haeata Student Council, the incoming 2026 Year 13 Peer Supporters, came together for two days of connection, challenge, and growth.

The energy was high as these groups united to build the skills necessary to lead and support our school community in the coming year.

Day 1: Connection, Culture, and Leadership

The first day was held on campus, focusing on workshops designed to sharpen leadership and interpersonal skills. A core component of the training involved delving into the principles of Restorative Practice, where students learned how to navigate difficult conversations with empathy and understanding—crucial skills for peer support.

We were honored to welcome Deputy Mayor and Onslow Alumni, Ben McNulty, as a guest speaker. Ben shared his personal journey from his time at Onslow to his entry into politics, offering valuable insights into key strengths that make a great leader.

A highlight of the day was undoubtedly learning a powerful haka, which served as a moving symbol of unity and strength for the group.

Day 2: Adventure and Problem Solving

The sun shone brightly for the second day as the students split into two groups for an action-packed day of adventures. The two groups switched activities at lunchtime:

  • Whitireia Park: One group took on the challenges of an ‘Amazing Race.’ This required teamwork, forcing students to problem-solve and utilize critical thinking to navigate the course.

  • Adrenalin Forest: The second group faced a physically and mentally demanding experience high in the trees. It was a day of pushing limits, conquering fears, and supporting one another through challenges.

We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and dedication shown over these two days. We can’t wait to see how this talented group of students will inspire and support the Onslow College community in 2026!
