Kākā Tangi Haeata: Leading the Way with Heart and Action

05/03/2026 By Editor

Our Student Leaders, Kākā Tangi Haeata, have hit the ground running this term! From fostering school spirit to supporting our local community and environment, their latest initiatives are all about making a tangible difference.

Here is a look at what they’ve been working on and how you can get involved:

Sustainability in Action: Seaweek Cleanup

In honor of Seaweek, our leaders are heading outdoors to protect our local ecosystem. They are organizing a massive cleanup effort focusing on the Waipahihi stream and school top field on Friday 6th March. By removing rubbish before it hits our waterways, is one way we are helping ensure our local environment stays pristine, without it ending up our waterways, polluting it and, ultimately, putting marine life in danger.

The Winter Project: Sharing the Warmth

As the temperature drops, our student leaders are thinking of those in our community who might be feeling the chill. The Winter Project is a student-led charity, run by a group of Year 12’s from Samuel Marsden, supported by other schools in Wellington. They collect second-hand winter clothes, in good condition, and deliver them to schools in the Greater Wellington Region.

  • What we need: Clean jackets, jumpers, beanies, scarves, and blankets. Essential winter items for those in need.

  • Where to drop off:  A dedicated collection box is located in the SLT office. Items can also be dropped off directly at Onslow Reception.
Building Onslow Community: The Clubs Expo

To ensure every student finds their “tribe,” the Student leaders are running a Clubs Expo on Thursday 19 March. This event will showcase the diverse range of clubs available at our school. Whether it’s arts, sports, or niche hobbies, you will find a club that suits you!
