A huge congratulations to Lucy Williams (Yr 9) and everyone who represented Onslow College at the Ngā Manu Kōrero Regional Speech competition on Wednesday. Held at Te Raukura ki Kāpiti (Kāpiti College), the event brought together secondary schools from across the region, from Seatoun to Ōtaki. Lucy did an outstanding job representing our school and stood proud competing in the Rāwhiti Ihaka (Junior Reo Māori) section.

Ngā Manu Kōrero is regarded as the most significant event on the Māori education calendar for nurturing the oratory skills and providing the stage for young people to express their views and to lay down their challenges to an admiring and critical audience of peers, parents, whānau and judges. The speech contests are intended to encourage the development of skills and confidence of Māori students in spoken English and te reo Māori.

While we did not take home any awards this year, it was a special occasion as we returned the Korimako (Senior English) trophy. Onslow College has proudly held this trophy for the last three years, following the previous successes of Billy Paratene (Class of 2024) and Scott Picard (Yr 12). A massive thank you to Te Whānau o Tarikākā, our Kapa Haka students, and the staff who travelled to support Lucy and represent our school community. We are incredibly proud of you all.
