Last Tuesday, eight Year 9 and Year 10 Onslow College students in our STEM Club put their technical creativity and problem-solving skills to the ultimate test at the EPro8 Challenge semi-finals at Paraparumu College.
The EPro8 Challenge is an inter-school STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) competition. Equipped with specialized engineering equipment—including aluminum framing, joiners, pulleys, gears, axles, and electronic sensors—teams are tasked with designing and constructing complex mechanical systems under a strict time limit. To succeed, students must interpret intricate engineering briefs, troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems, and work rapidly as a unit to score points on a live leaderboard.
Both Onslow teams demonstrated outstanding perseverance and teamwork throughout the event. A special congratulations goes to Alby Winton, James Curran, Billy O’Brien, and Raphaël Shindo, who delivered a fantastic performance to earn 2nd place! This result secured their spot in the Grand Final, being held at Paraparaumu College Thursday 24th September. Results to come!
