Our international students recently completed a fabulous two weeks of their four-week activity program, challenging themselves with a diverse range of adventures and new skills, from the harbour to the hills. The fantastic weather was the perfect backdrop, allowing the group to fully appreciate the stunning locations around the region.
The program was packed with outdoor activities that encouraged teamwork and exploration:
-
Patuna Chasm Exploration (near Martinborough): Students walked through the river valley to reach the spectacular Patuna Chasm. They experienced the unique atmosphere created by the amazing light filtering through the rocky outcrops.
-
Grade 3 River Rafting (Kaitoke Regional Park): A definite group favourite was rafting down the Pākuratahi River. Students navigated challenging rapids and waterfalls on this Grade 3 course, working together as a team to find the best route down the river.
-
Wellington Harbour Water Sports: Provided by the Wellington Ocean Sports Club, students enjoyed a session of sailing, Stand-Up Paddleboarding (SUP), and kayaking. They were quickly sailing the 8.2-meter keel boats almost immediately after leaving the marina!
Beyond the adrenaline of the outdoors, the students also explored their creative and culinary sides:
-
Barista Workshop: Back at school, students participated in our own Barista workshop. They learned the art of making coffee, producing delicious flat whites and hot chocolates, complete with some designer biscuits.
-
Wellington Chocolate Factory: A sweet visit to the factory allowed students to discover the intricacies of chocolate making. They learned how chocolate is heated and stretched to achieve the perfect consistency, and experimented with different flavour combinations.
A big thank you to staff member Helen Balfour who assisted in making this activity program a huge success, and providing the students with memorable challenges, new skills, and a true appreciation for the beautiful places in our region.
