Last night, Onslow College’s all-comers choir, Ngā Manu Tioriori, took to the stage at the annual Big Sing choral competition held at Wellington’s MFC. It was a huge day for our vocalists, who delivered a fantastic performance during the daytime sessions before stepping up once again for the evening gala.
The choir filled the venue with an impressive and diverse lineup of music. Their repertoire included the traditional New Zealand piece The Wellerman (arranged by Chris McLeish), Tyger by Elaine Hagenburg, and the classic California Dreamin’ by John and Michelle Phillips (arranged by Roger Emerson).
A massive thank you goes to our Musical Director, Olivia Fraser-Morris, for her incredible leadership and guidance. We also extend our gratitude to our talented instrumentalists, Jocelyn Oldcorn, who accompanied the choir on the piano, Temple Calinawan (Y11) on drums and Richard Williams (Y11) on Bass guitar.
The entire group had an amazing time, fully immersing themselves in the spirit of the event. For the students involved, the day was about much more than just the music.
“I’ve participated in The Big Sing at both schools I’ve been at and it never fails to be an absolute highlight of my year!! There’s just this awesome sense of community you get through singing, and singing at Onslow has been no different, I’ve made lots of new friends actually! I couldn’t recommend joining a choir enough, I’m not an amazing singer but still, there’s endless amounts of joy and learning!”

The electrifying energy of the evening performance left a lasting impression on both the audience and the performers themselves.
“We had the chance to showcase our talent in Wellington’s Big Sing. Truly an event that was simultaneously captivating and electrifying to all.”
— Daniel Shelton
