A quick summary of the amazing results and events our students are involved in, as reported to us over the holidays. To let us know about more results, email: sport@onslow.school.nz

BOYS CRICKET: Last week the Onslow College Boys Cricket First XI (plus some Second XI boys) attended a pre-season tournament in Hawke’s Bay. Coach, Aaron Crookston, reported back about the Tournament: The team played three games over three days against two Hamilton colleges and St John’s College from Hastings. There was a great culture in the team and the boys gelled really well. The team had some close games including a loss by 2 wickets with 7 balls remaining in their second game and a win by 17 runs in the last game. It was great competition for the season ahead which starts on Labour weekend.  Everybody contributed to the results with some key catches, wickets or runs at different times. Stand out performances with the bat included Ashford, Zorovar and Hamish getting half centuries and the best bowling figures went to Lithesh with 3 wickets for 8 runs in the first game. All the boys are looking forward to Term 4.

ADVENTURE RACING: After just missing out on qualifying for the Hillary Challenge Final earlier in the year, our team got a last-minute entry! We joined forces with students from Hutt Valley High School, Wellington Girls’ College, and Wellington College to form a combined team. Last week, they spent an incredible week at Hillary Outdoors Tongariro, putting their endurance, strength, and resilience to the test in a week-long challenge against other top schools from across the country. A special mention to Ryan Henshaw (Year 13), who was recognised for his leadership at the prizegiving on the final night — receiving one of two leadership awards as part of the event’s “Dream Team” of eight.

NZ RECORDS & REPRESENTATIVES:

  • Our resident Ten Pin Bowler, NZ Representative Elise Lewis (Year 10) had some epic results over the holidays. She attended the TBNZ Youth Junior Nationals for 3 days in Auckland. Her U18 Squad won GOLD, when they broke a NZ record convincingly by 49 points. That record has stood since 2007! She also won a silver medal in the U21 Women Singles competition, and another silver in the U21 Women Squad. Huge mahi Elise!
  • Speaking of New Zealand records, Roman Anderson (Year 12) who is also a Tawa Swim Club member, competed in the Swimming New Zealand 2025 Short Course Championships last week and broke the New Zealand record in the 16 year boys 50m breaststroke with a time of 28.64 seconds.  In the 16 year boys he also achieved Gold in the 50m breaststroke, Gold in the 200m breaststroke, Silver in the 100m breaststroke, and Silver in the 100m Individual Medley. Impressive Roman!
  • Orienteering legends Morag and Jake McLellan (Year 13) travelled to Brisbane, Australia to compete in the Australian Schools Orienteering Championships during the school holidays. They were part of the NZSS “Southern Cross” Orienteering team. Jake came away with four podium finishes! Well done both of you!
