On Monday the 2nd February, Kylie Wihapi – Deputy Mayor for Porirua City, presented three inspirational young women with Young Women in Leadership scholarships on behalf of the Zonta Mana and Wellington clubs.
Maia Thompson, a Year 13 at Onslow last year, was awarded a scholarship to support, encourage and inspire her to continue her participation in public and political life as she navigates tertiary life. She shared this win with two other recipients; Aroa Al Masri and Tara Douglas. The 2026 award recipients were selected following a robust process, including panel interviews conducted by members of the Zonta Mana and Wellington clubs.
The aim of the Zonta Young Women in Leadership Award is to encourage young women to participate in leadership positions by recognizing the candidate’s commitment to the volunteer sector, evidence of volunteer leadership achievements and a dedication to building a better world for women and girls through service and advocacy.
