22nd February 2024
Kia ora e te whānau and welcome to Onslow College for 2024.
It is wonderful having everyone back and seeing students settling into their new Ako classes, getting used to their timetables, laughing in the halls, getting engaged in summer sports and ready for new experiences in their learning.
Firstly, I want to say a special thank you to the Year 13 Peer supporters who have taken on this new role showing manaakitanga, patience and enthusiasm. Our Year 9 students are in very good hands.
Also thank you to all parents and students for their support of the new cell phone policy here at Onslow. Although not compulsory in schools until Term 2, we decided to take the approach of getting used to this new way of working for Term 1. On the whole, things are working exceptionally well and everyone is getting used to the new process.
We were once again very pleased with our 2023 NCEA results – all Level 1, 2, and 3 results are well above the National average. Please click here for more detailed results.
Thank you to all who contributed to our new Onslow College Strategic Plan, giving your time and valuable feedback. We had three in-person consultations and 1 parent survey which was a big effort from everyone. We have new Vision and Values to guide us this year and feel they capture the essence of Onslow and our ākonga in a future focused learning environment.
We have an exciting year ahead and I look forward to connecting with many of you in the coming months at a number of our school events.
Please reach out to me or any of the Senior Leadership Team if you have any questions.
Nga mihi nui,
Sheena Millar
