OC Volleyball
Onslow College Volleyball is off to a great start with THIRTEEN teams registered in the local leagues for Term 1. A huge surge in this sports popularity (especially among girls) across the region and country means lots of opportunities to play and a step up in competition, and lots of volunteer student coaches! It is awesome to see our seniors putting their hands up to coach. Coaching teaches you the importance of patience, good communication and being organised – all important, sought after skills which will look great on student CV’s.
Our Senior A Girls have been promoted to the Premiership Grade (the top Wellington grade for girls) this year, and now travel out to Walter Nash Stadium every Thursday to play 2 games. The Boys senior A team are in the Senior Boys Premier Reserve.

Coming off a positive weekend at the Wellington Champs a week before, Kaine Goonan (Y13) and Sam Harford (Y13) (pictured) won a gold medal in the Men’s Open Coxless Pair. The trip north to the Waikato saw the squad achieve 18 finals appearances from 34 races entered over 3 days. The highlight of the weekend saw Costin Eley (Y11) and Louis Kelly (Y11) take a 3rd place in the Boys Under 15 Double Sculls, gaining qualification to the Maadi Cup along the way. The squad are now in full preparation for the North Island Secondary School Rowing Champs in a week’s time, back up at Lake Karapiro.
