Pānui mō te Whānau – 16th May, 2024
Kia ora e te whānau,
Thank you to those who booked and attended our Subject Teacher Conferences, online or in person last week. We hope you and your student found them a valuable way of connecting with our kura. Technology is a wonderful thing, until it isn’t! We thank you for your patience when our short internet outage interrupted some meetings. If you were impacted you can email the teacher or ask for assistance from the Ako teacher.
Pink Shirt Day was celebrated today at school. By taking part in Pink Shirt Day 2024, students will be doing their part to eliminate bullying by celebrating diversity and promoting kindness and inclusion. Kōrero Mai, Kōrero Atu, Mauri Tū, Mauri Ora – Speak Up, Stand Together, Stop Bullying! Kua rite koe? This is a kaupapa that supports our values and while I’m sure you’ll have heard about some of the activities we got up to – there was candy floss, Mr. Whippy, a bake sale, there is a serious message associated with the day. You can find more information here. There is a short snapshot of the day on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
It’s that time of year when sickness and our friend Covid hangs around. Please rest, take care of yourselves and report absences through the School Bridge app. Our updated process and policy is here on our website.
Reminder: Paid Union meeting this Friday, 17 May, students finish at 12pm. Due to the Paid Union meetings in Wellington on May 17th, students will finish at 12pm this Friday. If your student needs supervision please let us know at info@onslow.school.nz. Thanks for your support.
Careers and Pathways – New Careerwise Website – We have introduced a new one-stop shop for everything your student needs to start thinking about next steps and the transition out of school. Have a look here: https://onslow.careerwise.school/. This is a website for both parents/caregivers and students. Peter Chapman is always happy to meet with families, and students can always book in a time to meet Peter through Careerwise (‘Make an appointment’ drop down) or the Careerwise button on the schoolbridge app. There are so many opportunities available for all students, I encourage you to do some research together.
Staff Only Days – We have two Staff only days this term. On Friday 31st May our staff will be attending the Loop Ed Conference in Wellington. This is one of the largest educational conferences in New Zealand and we look forward to guest speakers and the workshops on offer. On Tuesday 4 June our staff will be attending a morning with our Kāhui Ako and then working on developing our curriculum and timetable structure in the afternoon. This means that school will be closed and there will be no supervision of students on these days:
